So I got hooked on Land Of Talk from their debut EP from 2006. The vocals and songwriting were enchanting to me and the production on this EP was super raw, which I loved. After that, each release got progressively more mellow and more produced, but the heart and soul was still there, so I still enjoy them all. Think of this as a replacement for Sunday Vibes. Hope everyone has a chill night.

The Like Young

Here's another installment of a random old indie band that Adam has gotten back into lately. The Like Young is definitely on the poppier side of things but the hooks and riffs are there, trust me. Enjoy
The Like Young were an American indie rock band from Chicago, Illinois, composed of Amanda and Joe Ziemba. The couple had been playing music together in various bands since 1997 (most notably Wolfie and Busytoby). They formed The Like Young in the spring of 2002, and were married in the same year. Amanda played the drums and Joe played the guitar, bass, and occasionally keyboard; both sang, though Joe—who wrote most of the songs—took lead more often. Later in 2002, they released their first album, a five-track EP entitled "Looked Up" Plus Four, with Kittridge Records. In the spring of 2003, they released their first full-length album, Art Contest, on Parasol Records to mixed but overall not great reviews. Their next full-length album, So Serious, was released in the summer of 2004 on Parasol Records. Reviews for So Serious were more positive than for Art Contest, with some reviewers sharply contrasting the two. Tim Sendra of Allmusic wrote that "Art Contest was a slab of formulaic punk-pop bereft of inspiration and hooks...So Serious makes no radical changes but is about 100 percent better and less cute, more real." Their final album, Last Secrets, was released in 2006 on both CD and vinyl by Polyvinyl Record Co. On August 27, 2006, The Like Young announced their retirement citing the need to move on and make smart decisions. In the announcement Joe mentioned that the decision was a happy one. Joe soon returned to music and released Love at 30 in 2008 as Beaujolais; this record addresses the end of the Ziembas' marriage. Joe relocated to Los Angeles after 2009's Admirations. In June 2011, Joe released a collection of tracks written and recorded for The Like Young from 2002 to 2006. The release, titled "Fifteen Demos," was released via his Bandcamp page. Of the release, Joe wrote, "I'm saying goodbye to The Like Young. Only this time, I'm doing so with a hug and a smile."

"Nine Black Alps are an English alternative rock band, formed in 2003 in Manchester. The band consists of vocalist-guitarist Sam Forrest, guitarist David Jones, drummer James Galley and bassist Karl Astbury. Taking their name from "The Couriers" poem by Sylvia Plath, the band came to prominence with the release of their debut album, Everything Is in 2005. Following the release of the band's second album, Love/Hate (2007), the band parted ways with Island Records, and self-released their third studio album, Locked Out from the Inside in 2009. In 2011, bassist Martin Cohen departed the band to pursue a solo career under the name Milk Maid. Cohen was subsequently replaced by Karl Astbury, with the band releasing their fourth album, Sirens in October 2012. In April 2014, Nine Black Alps released their fifth studio album Candy For The Clowns on Hatch Records."

Label: Sentient Ruin Laboratories

If you ever thought a slower and more atmospheric and cerebral “sludge version” of infamously fringe and violent extreme metal bands like Revenge or Pissgrave was just a silly pipe dream, think again... Like an acid trip that goes totally wrong just as you enter a torture dungeon of unnameable horrors and begin to hallucinate before the most harrowing cruelty and inhumanity, Miscarriage’s new album and Sentient Ruin debut “Imminent Horror” is a work which defies logic and sanity in its insurmountable display of violence, darkness, and barely comprehensible chaos. Set to become one of the most shockingly violent, depraved, unsettling, and horrific albums of 2019, “Imminent Horror” seems to have crossed a new and never before seen threshold in extreme metal, taking the genre to a sickening new realm never before explored, and never before fathomed, not even by the sickest and most fucked up minds. Structured around a churning morass of hallucinatory atmospheres, derailing, discordant, and appallingly dense and downtrend guitar warfare, an illogically oppressive and unpredictable rhythm section, and a swarming haze of flesh-tearing screams, the songs on this abomination incarnated seem to want to reach out into a realm of the absurd to harness a level of hatred and destruction of unseen magnitude and plausibility. With their post-Carcass noisecore/goregrind roots firmly anchored at the base, Miscarriage have augmented the foundations of their sound and built an entire new world above it by bringing in elements of slower and more experimental and atmospheric extreme music coming from a sickening cesspool of influences as diverse as early Swans, Primitive Man, Corrupted, Ride for Revenge, Godflesh and extreme black metal, to materialize an aural abomination of near-incomprehensible horror. Classic homemade gore-drenched artwork and lyrics that can not and should not be ever unearthed for one's mental sanity and safe sleep round out a release of absolutely incinerating hatred and despondency whose sole existence is already an inexplainable mystery. (Press Note)
*Holy Fuck! This is amazing! On Imminent Horror, Miscarriage offer up seven tracks of raw, filthy, and visceral sounding hardcore, punk, black metal, sludge, and grindcore. Overall, Imminent Horror makes for an awesome listen and definitely should not be missed. Highly recommended! Enjoy!

ENDON is a
band as mercurial as they are ferocious. Comprised of the quintet of
vocalist Taichi Nagura, guitarist Koki Miyabe, drummer Shin Yokota, and
electronics/noisemakers Taro Aiko and Etsuo Nagura, ENDON’s music is
contained chaos, bending and colliding genres into one another atop a
bed of thunderous distortion, feedback, and unearthly squeals. Vocalist
Taichi’s voice embodies an unreal number of personalities with wordless
howls seething one moment, and agonized cries the next, before desperate
gasps for air. It comes as no surprise that they have been credited as
the most extreme band in Tokyo. Boy Meets Girl finds ENDON relishing in
the unexpected and shifting with relentless force from pounding sludge
to off-kilter hardcore to synth-driven dance to utter oblivion.
Boy Meets Girl was envisioned as a soundtrack to an imagined horror film about love. Disparate influences such as horrorcore, Dick Dale, Joe Meek and the Dead Kennedys converge and erupt forth over the course of single songs. The warped story of the album unfolds in scattered motifs and references, with the titular “boy” being born from a womb of noise and dealing with the conflicts that arise when recognizing the world, and love, outside his own ego. The record takes an abstract approach to the subject of love and looks beyond the well tread romantic aspects in favor of an altogether more disorienting take.
ENDON set out to make fictional film score with “light music,” played by a much heavier band. The core of the ensemble’s song structures are often built around Koki’s fuzz-laden guitar and Shin’s drum bombast which propel torrents of hisses and squelches from Taro and Etsuo. Taichi’s largely lyric-less screams, moans, and whimpers are potent messengers of the songs’ emotional heft. Recorded by Atsuo of Boris, Boy Meets Girl is not entirely harsh and heavy. Sequencer delicacies are laced into pieces like the mammoth “Doubts As a Source.” The respite of “Red Shoes” lay bare ENDON’s ability to construct detailed arrangements, a trait shared with the album’s more eviscerating songs.
There lies an ecstatic, excited energy amidst the anarchic defiance ENDON’s music exudes. Born of the same Japanese scenes that gave rise to the likes of Merzbow and Boredoms, their sound is equally diverse and abrasive. Boy Meets Girl demonstrates ENDON’s singular faculty to produce music that is at once tortured and transcendent. (Press Note)
