Here's a killer split LP featuring new tracks from Keeper and Sea Bastard. Keeper are a four piece band from California who formed in June of 2014. Keeper dropped a killer four song demo titled MMXIV back July of 2014 that absolutely made my jaw drop when I reviewed it on Manic Compression and Elementary Revolt back in 2014. Keeper play a dark, visceral, and brutal as fuck sounding style of music that incorporates elements of hardcore, punk, sludge, death metal, doom, and sludge within their sound. Musically, Keeper can be loosely compared to bands such as Mutilation Rites, Ilsa, Hexis, and Thou. On their side of the split, Keeper offer up on track titled 777, which clocks in at a little under fourteen minutes. Sea Bastard is up next on side two. Sea Bastard is a four piece band from Brighton, UK who formed in 2012. Sea Bastard play an opressive, oppressive, and heavy as fuck sounding style of music that incorporates elements of doom, sludge, death metal, and stoner rock within their sound. Sea Bastard cite Sleep, Cathedral, Celtic Frost, Corrupted, Black Sabbath, Burning Witch,
Weedeater, Electric Wizard, Ramesses, St Vitus, and Pentagram as influences, which definitely shows up in the band's sound and style. Musically, Sea Bastard can loosely be compared to bands such as Moloch, USNEA, and Lightbearer. On their side of the album, Sea Bastard offer up on song titled Astral Rebirth, which clocks in at a little under 21 minutes. Overall, this is a killer split and is an absolute must listen for fans of modern doom, sludge, and death metal. Highly recommended! Enjoy! This album was released via Medusa Crush Recordings and Dry Cough records on June 25th, 2015.
