MAGIC FINGERS // THE DEVIL RIDES OUT

So since everyone seemed to enjoy my latest Cursed offerings, and because I'm too lazy to post anything new, I thought I would re-post a video I made a while ago using the song Magic Fingers from Cursed III playing over top of a clip from 1968's "The Devil Rides Out", AKA "The Devil's Bride". The song somehow worked perfectly with the clip using almost zero editing. And, if you didn't know already, this is the movie that birthed the legendary He-Goat that you see on all things Cursed. Enjoy!

TOP FIVE OF 2015

(Au) My Disco-Severe LP (2015)

Country: Australia
Genre: Post Punk,Noise Rock, Industrial Pop
Label: Temporary Residence Ltd.
Tracks: 8
Length: 35.0'

My Disco is a three piece band from Melbourne, Australia who formed in 2003.  My Disco play a harsh and discordant style of music that incorporates elements of punk, post punk, industrial pop, and noise rock within their sound.  Since their inception in 2003, My Disco have released multiple LPs with a sound that has progressed a lot since their early post hardcore leanings early on in their career.

MY DISCO have always employed space as an instrument. Space between notes; space between instruments; even space between albums, as the Australian trio prepare to release Severe, their first full-length record in nearly five years. More than just a title, Severe pushes MY DISCO’s subtle, intensely focused, minimalist sound to its most terrifying extreme. It is bleak, occasionally uncomfortable, and unpredictably profound. Severe is an album of aggravated tonal darkness and long breaths of disturbing silence, punctuated by pounding stabs and heavy, hypnotic rhythms. It is a minimalist approach to maximum sound, and by far the band’s darkest, heaviest, and most consistent album of MY DISCO’s burgeoning career. (Press Note)

Severe is My Disco's latest full-length LP, which was released via Temporary Residence Ltd on October 30th, 2015.  On Severe, My Disco offer up eight tracks dark, stark and bleak sounding post punk, noise rock, and industrial pop that is difficult to describe and almost impossible to pigeonhole.  Overall, Severe is a killer LP and should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

Ex-Breathers is a three piece band from Tallahassee, Florida who formed in 2011.  Ex-Breathers play a tense, discordant, and dirty as hell sounding style of music that seamlessly melds equal parts hardcore, punk, post punk, and noise rock in their sound.  Musically, Ex-Breathers can be said to draw inspiration from a variety of sources of underground such as the driving hardcore of bands such as Drive Like Jehu or Hot Snakes, the violent unpredictability of bands like Swing Kids or Blood Brothers, or  the post punk leanings of bands such as Pissed Jeans.  Tying the band's sound together in a tight package is a dark, dirty, and negative undercurrent, which keeps Ex-Breather's sound exciting, refreshing, an unpredictable.  I've been fortunate to be able to watch this band progress since first being ask to review them back when Elementary Revolt was active.  Past Tense is the band's latest full-length LP, which was released via Hex records on August 1st, 2015.  On Past Tense, Ex-Breathers offer up twelve tracks of tense and discordant hardcore, punk, post punk, and noise rock bliss that's an absolute must listen for fans of early 31G San Diego style hardcore, discordant hardcore, post punk, and noise rock.  Overall, this is a killer LP and should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

Hexis-XI LP (2013)

Country: Denmark
Genre: Hardcore, Punk, Black Metal
Label: Dead Tank Records
Tracks: 7
Length: 21.0'

Hexis is a band from Copenhagen, Denmark, playing a mix of Hardcore and doomy black metal for fans of Celeste. The band has existed since 2010, but has already played 200 shows in Cuba, Russia, the UK and all-over Europe.
“Into the darkness. Darkness amidst the ice. Darkness amidst the grey days. Darkness warping every note and sound. Cold isolation. Frozen warnings. Hexis makes hardcore drained of machismo and the warmth of human companionship. There is no celebration, no brotherhood, no cathartic violence.
Hexis makes black metal that pays no allegiance to deities or archetypes, black metal that is immersed in the foul grit of the human condition. All you are left with is your own pointless thoughts being battered blind by this overwhelming force of sound. Every note on “XI” is blown out and damaged beyond repair, sonics pushed into abusive levels. Strings breaking. Vocals emanating from your buried, atavistic lizard brain. Contempt and pity at the same time. From Copenhagen, did you even have to ask?” (Press Note)
